On a  recent overnight experience at a Westin that grabbed Steven Barrett’s attention. “Frankly, the next morning I realized it was my best night’s sleep ever. Period.” Barrett was so smitten with the experience that he unmade his bed, from head to foot, and he made a notation of everything in between – the Heavenly mattress and box spring, the many different kinds of pillows and the pillow cases, all of the cotton-blend sheets – flat, middle and fitted, and the bed skirt. “I wanted to duplicate this exact sleeping experience on my own bed in my own bedroom in my own home,” he says. And then he uncovered on his Heavenly bed something that he hadn’t seen before, and he certainly hadn’t realized he had slept on one: a mattress protector labeled the PerfectCLEAN® PCiPAD. Barrett immediately realized that to duplicate his Heavenly Bed experience at home, he was going to need a PCiPAD. “I went down to the front desk and asked about it. They referred me to the housekeeping manager, who then directed me to the PerfectCLEAN® website where I found all the information I needed,” Barrett says. “So I bought a PCiPAD. And, I’m now happy to say, it’s part of my Heavenly sleep experience at home.”

“Guests would remove wet bathing suits and throw them on the extra bed and sea water from wet bathing suits would soak into the mattress often leaving a stain. The Adults and Children that would frequent the time share units would also have accidents in the beds. Since the Time Share Rooms are not serviced every day, the Guests would often try to cover up the wet spots with towels or, just move to another sleeping area. This would leave time for the accident spot to soak in. Since we are on an Island, it is very expensive to dispose of and purchase a new mattress. Since the PCIPADs have been installed there are NO incidents of mattresses that had to be disposed of. We wash the PCIPADs once a month to keep them fresh. Some Guests will notice the pads but most do not. They go unnoticed and don’t change the Guest Sleep experience at all.”

Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort

We spoke with Joanne Iwamoto, Director of Housekeeping at the Westin Moana Surfrider Hotel about the PCiPADs. The Hotel has purchased $50,000.00 of PCiPADs from 2015 till 2016. They have almost 800 Rooms and Suites.

Joanne’s comments:
“We stopped buying the American Hotel Register Mattress Pads because they were not waterproof. The AHR Pads would not hold up well after they were washed, and they still had stains.

The PCiPADs are very durable after washing. (they have an off-premise laundry service.) They have saved an average of 9 or 10 mattresses per month from getting destroyed. A replacement Mattress in Hawaii costs around $800.00. When a Mattress has to be disposed of the Hotel must pay an average of $250.00 to have it taken off the Island.”

This Hotel has 696 rooms. Each room has a PCiPAD on the mattress. Trevor Ketch is the former Director of Housekeeping.

Finding beds that had been urinated on had was almost a twice weekly occurrence. Trevor mentioned that maybe it was because of their locationin Mid-Town Manhattan, or the large number of International travelers, but they had “accidents”.

They are now washing the PCIPADs only when soiled. None of the Guests are commenting that they notice or even realize that there is a pad on the bed. All soiled PCIPADs are removed by one employee and washed and returned the same day. He hasn’t had to wash or replace a mattress since installing the PCIPADs.

This Hotel has 1635 Hotel rooms … all rooms have PCIPADs.

Prior to purchasing the PCiPADs this Hotel would spend an average of $5000.00 per month in replacement/removal costs.
